Fundamental Frequency Extraction Method using Central Clipping and its Importance for the Classification of Emotional State
Pavol Partila,Miroslav Voznak,Martin Mikulec,Jaroslav Zdralek
Advances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering , 2012,
Abstract: The paper deals with a classification of emotional state. We implemented a method for extracting the fundamental speech signal frequency by means of a central clipping and examined a correlation between emotional state and fundamental speech frequency. For this purpose, we applied an approach of exploratory data analysis. The ANOVA (Analysis of variance) test confirmed that a modification in the speaker's emotional state changes the fundamental frequency of human vocal tract. The main contribution of the paper lies in investigation, of central clipping method by the ANOVA.
A Rare Case of Nasal Glial Heterotopia Presenting as Sphenochoanal Polyp  [PDF]
Pavol Surda, Jonathan Hobson
International Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery (IJOHNS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ijohns.2015.42014
Abstract: Objective: This paper reports a rare case of nasal glial heterotopia presenting as sphenochoanal polyp. So far, literature has revealed only few cases. Case Report: A 55-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of left sided nasal obstruction. Rigid endoscopy showed greyish left nasal polyp and anterior discharge. Subsequently, CT scan of the sinuses revealed sphenochoanal polyp filling the left nasal cavity, without signs of expansion, or destruction and no obvious connection with intracranial tissue. Mass was removed endoscopically and histology confirmed glial nature of the mass. Conclusion: Any mass arising from sphenoid sinus should be carefully evaluated on CT scan for existence of fibrous stalk, or connection with brain tissue and needs to be considered in the differential diagnosis of the sphenochoanal mass. Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice, which is curative.
On Computational Power of Partially Blind Automata

Journal of Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Informatics , 2012, DOI: 10.2478/v10294-012-0003-5
Abstract: In this paper we deal with 1-way multihead finite automata, in which the symbol under only one head (called read head) controls its move and other heads cannot distinguish the input symbols, they can only distinguish the end-marker from the other input symbols and they are called the blind head. We call such automaton a partially blind multihead automaton. We prove that partially blind k + 1-head finite automata are more powerful than such k-head finite automata. We show also that nondeterministic partially blind k-head finite automata languages are not closed under iteration and intersection for any k ≥ 2, and moreover, deterministic partially blind k head finite automata languages are not closed under intersection, union, complementation and reversal for any k ≥ 2. Finally we prove that deterministic partially blind k-head finite automata with endmarker are more powerful that such automata without endmarker for each k ≥ 4.

Analysis of two variants of sequential excavation of a cross section of the B rik Tunnel
Vavrek Pavol
Acta Montanistica Slovaca , 2001,
Abstract: The B rik tunnel has been designed as a double tube tunnel intended for one way traffic. Both tunnel tubes with the lengths of 999 and 993 meters are mutually interconnected by two escape entries. The B rik tunnel is part of the D1 Mengusovce Jánovce motorway structure. The tunnel goes through sound und semi rock forquarternary basic (dolomite) und quarternary sediments (in the tunnel portals glacial und deluvial sediments). The tunneling project operations were carried out by Geoexperts Firm (fig. 1 - variant No 1). The alternative tunneling project operations were carried out by Profesor Ing. J. Hatala, CSc. (fig. 2 variant No 2). During excavation of the tunnel a rock pillar of varying thickness is considered. The arbitration oh both variants was realised using mathematical modelling. The mathematic model involves: The effect of rock bolts on the stability of the rock massif, The influence of shotcrete on the stabilization of the tunnel tubes, The effect of the protective umbrella in the portal section, relaxation of stresses in the rock massif after partial excavation, Time sequence execution of each excavation. The Mohr Coulomb constituded model was used in the analysis. On the basis of the analysis using mathematical modelling, it is possible to state that the texcavation of the B rik tunnel is better in terms of stress state with variant number one.
Geotechnics aspects salt exploitation of the slovak deposits
Vavrek Pavol
Acta Montanistica Slovaca , 2004,
Abstract: Salt caverns can be used for a variety of storage purposes, and this requires adequate calculation methods for the rock mechnical behavior and for the proof of cavern stability. A general calculation concept and dimension criteria is proposed to contribute to the elements of the theoretical investigation of the stability behaviour of caverns in salt rock.. As a method for solution by approximation of non-linear equations concerning the stresses and strains in the rock, the mathematical modelling methods (FEM- Finite Element Method, BEM Boundary Element Method, DEM Distinct Element Method) is applied. The knowledge on the material behavior depending on stress, temperature, cavern shape, and time must be the basis for reliable results of calculations. In the present paper is made to demonstrate mathematical modelling application for the geotechnical problems solving of the slovak salt deposits Zbudza and Solivary-Pre ov.
Characterization of the influence of building a road on the stability of the tunnel lining in a Banska Bystrica railway tunnel
Vavrek Pavol
Acta Montanistica Slovaca , 2001,
Abstract: This paper deals with solving the problem of tunnel lining stability in a railway tunnel. The road cut was made into the overburden of the tunnel. I investigated the effect of the road cut on the stability of tunnel lining. The FLAC3D mathematical modelling technique was used for this purpose. The solution consist of: - - - - - - - - - - - -modelling the initial situation before building the intervention,Determing the internal characteristics of the tunnel lining in its original state, modelling the situation after making the road cut,Determing the internal characteristics of the tunnel lining after the building intervention,Comparison of the internal characteristics of the tunnel lining before and after the building intervention. In the model, I used these general geotechnical properties of the rock environment and the tunnel lining:Material Youngus modulus [MPa] Poissons RatioClay 8 0,42Weakly wheathered calcite 3 000 0,25Hard wheathered calcite 600 0,30Fill 300 0,25Lining 20 000 0,20The arbitration of the tunnel lining stability was executed on the basis of the Mohr Coulomb limit of the state. Building the road cut does not lead to loss of stability in the tunnel a at Station 1.225 00 or at Station 1.300 00.
Mineral resources at the beginning of the 21st century - trends and possibilities
Grecula Pavol
Acta Montanistica Slovaca , 2002,
Abstract: The world's population growth might have a positive impact on the geological investigation, the exploration and on the mining industry. The globalization of the world economy will have a positive economic cosequence for mining enterprises. Important is, that mining companies have to accept the environmental laws and to carry out rehabilitation in areas of mining activities. The detail understanding of geology of mineral deposits remains the primary control of their efficient exploitation. In regards to growing concerns about the sustainability of mineral production and environmental quality, as well as the simultaneous increase of demand for mineral-resource information, the Ministry of Environment of Slovak Republic completed the introduction study of the feasibility of assessing and predicting where and how much undiscovered mineral resources remain in Slovakia.

Pavol Lenhart
Acta Montanistica Slovaca , 2007,
Abstract: The creation of sustainable market of biomass energy for the heat production in Slovakia, the reduction of GHG emissions and the promotion of adoption the renewable energy sources in Slovakia were the main goals of the BIOMASA Association through this project. In this project, a new plant for production of the pellet has been built and 44 boilers in schools and other public buildings were converted from the fossil fuel to pellets. The project was located predominantly in the Northwest Slovakia and it was multinationally financed through several grants. It was the first project in Slovakia which received the financial support from the LIFE Environment Program, in 2003. The project presents a complex solution for the implementation of biomass heating and establishment of the market with wood pellets in Slovakia. It solves the production and the consumption of pellets as one integrated unit.
A priori estimates for global solutions and multiple equilibria of a superlinear parabolic problem involving measures
Pavol Quittner
Electronic Journal of Differential Equations , 2001,
Abstract: We consider a noncoercive elliptic problem in a bounded domain with a power nonlinearity and measure data. It is known that the problem possesses a stable solution and we prove existence of three further solutions. The proof is based on uniform bounds of global solutions of the corresponding parabolic problem and on a topological degree argument.
